This expanded version of the Children's Theatre musical, TOM SAWYER, was first presented at the Barter Theatre for their Spring Student series, playing high schools all over Virginia during the week and general audiences on week-ends. It was so popular to both audiences in the Spring that it was revived in the Fall to close out the theatre's Summer Season and played to a 99% capacity record. The character list was increased to 14 (played by 11 performers) and three full cast "production" numbers were added. Younger audiences thrilled to the shenanigans of Tom and Huck while older audiences focused on the choice Tom has to make: does he continue to skip school and live the indolent life with his "best pal" Huck, or "grow up" and go to school and sit next to his sweetheart, Becky? The piano score was enhanced with a second keyboard score and a percussion score. New numbers include "To-o-o-m! Tom Sawyer!", "I Count on You", and "Becky's Birthday Party".
