  SCROOGE
This is a dramatic and musical rendering of the Charles Dickens' Classic, A CHRISTMAS CARROL.  It takes place almost entirely in Scrooge's bedroom....giving the impression that the story is a "memory piece" taking place inside Scrooge's mind.  This version does not gloss over the "dark side" of Dickens' tale of the poverty and want that cause the degradation of the lower class.  The bedroom set quickly converts into other locales by changing small drops rigged between the two downstage posts of Scrooge's fourposter bed.  The cast requirements are four males, three females, and one child, all with professional singing requirements.  All the performers, with the exception of Scrooge, double and tripple their roles and added cast members could be used to fill out the choral sections.  As I have done before in another "holiday" musical, I have composed different melody lines and lyrics based on familiar Christmas themes.  By keeping the basic chord structures, the songs sound "familiar" but are new and original.  The drama is augmented with comedy  and a story line that is easy for younger audiences to follow and enjoy.  Adults will have the added pleasure of thrilling to this classic tale among children who witness it for the first time.  With abundant and atmospheric incidental music, the score includes such songs as "Merry Christmas!  Season's Gladness!", "It's Scrooge!", "A Most Disagreeable Day!", "The Face of Jacob Marley!", "Silent Rooms", "The Fezziwig Song and Dance", "How She Will Pity Me", "I Give You Mr. Scrooge", and "A Most Amazing Thing!".
