THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER I found myself as caught up with the action as were the youngsters all around me. “The Prince and Pauper” is a fine, fun show. Kinter manages to integrate humor into the show that is appealing to the youngsters without being repellent to their parents and teachers. It’s a great show, and a good choice for a family outing. Barter Theatre opened the season with a bang with Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper,” a quickly paced, humorous and moving production that probably would make the author proud. Though usually considered a children’s play, director Richard Kinter’s stage adaptation has subtly retained much of Twain’s biting criticism of the British monarchy, providing adults with plenty of meat to chew while the kids nibble the humorous tidbits. It presents a rare opportunity for parents and children to attend a production without a yawn from either one.John Newland, Kingsport times-News A good play for the entire family. Go see this one. |
