CINDERELLA
This is an original musical re-telling of the well-known tale of the poor "cinder-sweep" who wishes to find love.  In the manner of the English Pantomimes, the ugly step-sisters are "over-the-top" UGLY and should be played by character men.  The familiar cast of characters is supplemented by a magical cat, Soot, who befriends our heroine, the Prince's friend and confidant, Harold the Herald, who is mistaken for His Highness and ultimately pursued by the step-sisters, Repulsalina and Vulgaria, and two members of the Royal Court who alternate between what is "proper" and what is "for the best".  In the hilarious "shoe-fitting" scene, Cinderella's Step-Mother comes dangerously close to being the Prince's bride!  The two-set requirements are the kitchen of the Hearth Family and the entrance hall of the Palace.  A Cross-over scene for the coach and horses is scored for a "Tap" sequence if desired.  Costumes can set the period of the piece from a wide variety of historical or fanciful periods.  Three to four female speaking roles (the Fairy God Mother can double as Dame Dumble), two males in drag as the Step-Sisters,  three males (as males) and Soot, the cat, (played by either a small male of female) make up the cast.  Songs include "Soot!  Silly Cat!", "No One Is Cuter", "A Ride In A Pumkin",  "Pretending",  "Moon Madness", and "I'm Romantic!".
