ALADDIN
This musical tale from the ARABIAN NIGHTS, originally set in China, is dramatically transferred back to the mythical land of Scherazade.  Written for a minimum of five players (with doubling), off-stage singers have now been added if desired.  Through a delightful combination of comedy and mystery, it tells the tale of Aladdin, an impoverished boy with a wild sense of adventure, pitted against a mother who is content to live the life that poverty has dealt them.  When an evil magician inadvertently places a magical lamp in the boy's hands, Aladdin obtains the Princess of his dreams, a magnificent palace, and riches beyond imagining, only to lose them all when the magician, Magrabi, steals the lamp from him.  At the climax of the musical play, Magrabi, with an evil eye that stuns, orders the Genii of the Lamp to destroy the Princess and Aladdin's mother.  Aladdin discovers that a kiss will break Magrabi's spell.  In a "Keystone Cops-Like" sequence, Aladdin and Magrabi tussle over possession of the Lamp, the Genii stops, starts, and stops again as different "commands" are hurled his way.  Multiple locations, colorful costumes and magical "effects" dazle the eyes of young audiences of all ages.  There are five male and two female speaking (and singing) roles.  Along with a full score of incidental mood music, the songs include "Aladdin, My Son",  "I Want To Be...Something",  "What Could Happen To Me?",  "Tomorrow's the Day", and "Never Tell the Children What to Do".
